FOR HAPPO DAY
I’m going to start by pointing out that I’m not writing my pitch in a professional blog on which I’ve cultivated my insights and reflections on society and the media. I’m writing it on my personal tumblr because I don’t want someone to just hire my opinions. I want someone to hire ME.
So what is ME? It includes: a diverse marketing education, a resume of top-notch experience, a fast learner, a marathon runner, an eye for detail, a Type-A personality, a community volunteer, a technology lover, a creative and quirky flair, a drive to be better than average, a social creature, a problem solver, a story teller.
My full-time job in the PR department of BBDO was eliminated at the close of 2008, in the midst of the economic downfall. As someone who has never been without some sort of work since I was a sophomore in college, this was an unexpected and difficult turn of events, both fiscally and emotionally.
But however hard it may have been (and still is) to deal with the unknown, I am now at a point at which I can look back and see the positives of this past year. I’ve made some stellar connections and good friends through my job search, I’ve put myself out there in ways that I’d never done before, I’ve discovered what kind of companies I really do want to work for (as well as those I don’t), and I also realized that up until my layoff, maybe I hadn’t been going down the right career path, after all. And strange as it is that I’m writing this post for HAPPO Day, I’m actually no longer looking for a PR job. What I am is a former PR pro looking to get back into what initially sparked my desire to transfer to the Business School as an undergrad in the first place - Marketing. So, I am currently looking for a job in consumer marketing, corporate communications or social media marketing.
So why would you want to hire ME for your available marketing (and specifically social media marketing) position? Because I love to work with people. I love to explore. I love to delve head-first into a project and swim around in the depths of it until I come up with an answer. I micro manage myself so no one else has to do it for me. I’m vivacious and positive and have a laugh that can make even the grumpiest client crack a smile.
My name is Sara Wingert. I live in NYC. I’m 25 years old. And this is ME.
